ABC Worksheet

ABC Template

DIRECTION:

The ABC model helps individuals understand their behaviors and responses in their environment. Individuals identify what is happening in their environment before a target behavior (the Antecedents), the beliefs the individual has about the event and afterwards (the Consequences). Once these elements are understood, individuals can understand how they form beliefs, biases and passions and then work to modify their behavior and way of thinking about particular events.

A: Antecedents (activators/triggers)
B: Beliefs (attitudes/thought patterns/information that you understand as truth)
C: Consequences (results/effect/impact of actions or behaviors)

Part 1

Use the space below to reflect on a particular event, behavior and response. While completing this exercise, try to complete the exercise using reflection and empathy for yourself. Reflect on the event like you are talking to a close friend.

Part 2

Now that you have identified the elements surrounding that event, behavior and response, it is time to identify how you would like to adjust your response and modify your thinking.
